About this event

The aim of the Our Green Skills programme is to help young people and schools gain a better understanding of what green skills are and the impact of these green skills on our changing economy. This virtual showcase event is for anyone interested in supporting the Our Green Skills programme in the South West including STEM Ambassadors, school staff and those from industry & universities.

Session Focus

There are lots of fantastic resources and activity ideas that exist to help young people understand protecting our environment or careers opportunities - the resources that we will focus on during this showcase event will combine these two threads to create fun & informative learning opportunities. We will cover a range of resources that are suitable for either Primary aged students (5-11years) or Secondary aged students (11-18 years). The resources covered in this session have been sourced from:

  • The Ellen MaCarthur Foundation
  • Go Construct (CITB)
  • Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)
  • Royal Academy of Engineering
  • Earthshot Prize
  • Jacobs
  • Raspberry Pi
  • The Digital Engineering Technology and Innovation (DETI) initiative

Why Our Green Skills?

The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) has published a regional Green Skills report which outlines the future skills and expertise needed for the region to meet net zero by 2030. More than 50,000 new jobs will be required with a focus on these green skills. The STEM Ambassador Hub West England, are planning to increase the awareness of Teachers and Learners of the transferability of STEM skills to a future in a low carbon, sustainable economy.

Further note for Existing STEM Ambassadors - If you're interested in being kept up to date with the Our Green Skills programme (especially if you're not able to attend the launch) then please login to your STEM profile, select 'edit your profile' and then navigate to the 'My Schemes' section (which can be found under the Skills & Qualifications section). Please then add 'Climate Ambassadors' into the My Schemes box, and hit save!

Climate Ambassadors is a new national scheme for STEM Ambassadors. By supporting the Climate Ambassadors scheme to deliver successful interactions with young people the initiative ensures the young people of today are equipped to tackle the climate issues of tomorrow.
